Water Jet Cutting Services in Wilmington, MA

Water jet uses CNC programming to cut a number of different shapes, patterns, and parts out of metal. The finished parts are then sent to the brake press for bending, to the welder for fabricating, or can be treated and packaged flat.

Materials that are frequently cut with a water jet cutter includes textiles, rubber, foam, plastics, leather, composites, stone, tile, glass, metals, food, paper and much more. Most ceramics can also be cut on an abrasive water jet as long as the material is softer than the abrasive being used. Water Jets cannot cut tempered glass and diamonds.

Water Jet Cutting Overview

Water Jet Cutting works with fresh water  and a large amount of pressure is introduced to the low-pressure water input and then sent through the inlet filter. From there, it is sent to the intensifier pump. The pump adds pressure to the hydraulic fluid, signaling the pistons to move back and forth, which then pressurizes the water in the pump. The water then flows from the pump to what is called an accumulator, a device that smooths out any ripples in the water. Finally, the water is forced through a pressured tubing to the head of the device. The water is controlled by the on/off valve here at the head. At this point, an abrasive component can be added to the water in a mixing chamber.
